7 Oct 2024, 21:08

The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence will meet on Tuesday, October 8th with representatives from Dóchas.

The meeting will take place between 15:15-18:15 in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.

The following representatives are due to appear:

  • Jane Ann McKenna, CEO, Dóchas
  • David Regan, CEO Concern
  • Caoimhe De Barra, CEO Trócaire
  • Siobhan Walsh, CEO Goal Global

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Charlie Flanagan said: "We welcome the opportunity hear from Dóchas on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The devastating situation in Sudan is a conflict that deserves more attention from the international community. Ireland is working closely with our EU and international partners to demand a ceasefire, humanitarian access, protection of civilians, and accountability for human rights abuses."

"Since the conflict erupted in April, the number of people in need of humanitarian assistance in Sudan has surged and almost two million people have been displaced."

"We look forward to hearing what measures can be taken to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and the steps taken to date."
