CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation will conduct a routine inspection on the SR 156 bridge over the Tennessee River at LM 15.19 in South Pittsburg beginning Monday, June 1, through Friday, June 5, 2026.
To allow crews safe access to the structure, lane closures will be in place daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time, alternating in direction. Flaggers will be stationed at both approaches to guide traffic through the work zone, so be prepared to stop when approaching the bridge from either direction.
Because traffic will be controlled by flagging, drivers are urged to approach the bridge with caution and remain alert for inspection personnel and equipment.
These inspections are part of TDOT's ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and longevity of Tennessee's bridges.
As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT's motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departing. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Tennessee's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations may result in up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
