ADVISORY - SCRANTON - Shapiro Administration to Highlight $12.3 Million Investment to Improve Maternal and Child Health in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen will spotlight the $12.3 million invested by the Shapiro Administration over three years to support and improve maternal and child health initiatives in Pennsylvania during a visit to Maternal & Family Health Services, Inc. in Scranton. The Administration's efforts increased postpartum depression screenings, identified and provided access to care for women with hypertension, and created grants to improve outcomes for Pennsylvania mothers and babies, among other improvements.

Since taking office in 2023, Secretary Bogen has made improving maternal and child health outcomes a priority. The Governor's 2026-2027 proposed budget builds on that commitment by allocating an additional $7.5 million to support enhanced programming initiatives and infrastructure.

A portion of this $7.5 million budget allocation would be used to assist counties in preventing child deaths, as well as to support education and outreach initiatives.
