U.S. Chamber Welcomes Canada's Decision to Reassess Online Streaming Regulations

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Government of Canada's decision to reassess the recent implementation of Canada's Online Streaming Act and to direct the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to review its May 21 decision regulating online streaming platforms and Canadian broadcasters.

"Canada's cultural objectives can and should be advanced without measures that make streaming more expensive for consumers or that impose rigid, one-size-fits-all requirements that single out U.S.-headquartered services," said Neil Herrington, Senior Vice President for the U.S. Chamber's Americas Department. "We welcome Canada's shift toward affordability, consumer choice, and flexibility, and its stated intent to move toward a more evenhanded and technology-neutral framework, and we applaud the U.S. government's efforts in helping achieve this outcome.

"The Chamber looks forward to continued engagement with Canadian officials and stakeholders to support a durable approach promoting a vibrant creative sector while avoiding discriminatory barriers harming innovation and trade in the Canada-U.S. economic relationship."
