Niagara University's Dwyer Arena hosted students from Bloneva Bond Primary School in Niagara Falls and youth hockey teams from across the Buffalo region on Saturday, Jan. 4, during a special event that included viewing of hockey's most prestigious trophy, the Stanley Cup.
The appearance coincided with the Niagara men's hockey home game against Bentley. Both the children and fans attending the game had the opportunity to view and take photos with the iconic trophy, which was available for viewing and photos in Talons, the Dwyer Arena's sports bar and restaurant, through the efforts of NU alumnus John Katko, '84.
In addition, the evening was paired with "Youth Hockey Night," which welcomed more than 300 young hockey players with the Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles and surrounding organizations who joined the team following the game for a public skate.
The event, which opened the second half of the men's hockey season, strengthened the university's connections with local youth organizations and built on its existing relationship with the school, where team members have been conducting floor hockey sessions in physical education classes throughout the year.
