Portugal is consolidating "an economic model and strategy based on economic, financial, and social stability" claimed the Prime Minister on Monday during the ceremony to the first stone of what will be Lufthansa Technik Portugal; believing that the investment in Santa Maria da Feira shows the international confidence in the country and starts a new stage of strategic partnership between Portugal and Germany.
Luís Montenegro advocated that the Government's strategy is based on fostering the economy's competitiveness through a more competitive tax model for workers and companies. "We are building a low tax model. We want people to pay less tax on wages so they can be more motivated and more productive. We want to settle our talent and attract some to Portugal too," he stated.
The Prime Minister added that the goal is also to reduce the tax burden on companies so they can invest more in equipment, innovation, and human capital, thereby contributing to higher wages, greater productivity, and more wealth creation.
Luís Montenegro further stressed that the Government continues committed to attracting major investments to Portugal, bringing technology, innovation, and new managerial methods that accelerate the economy's modernisation and boost workers' qualifications.
According to the Head of Government, today Portugal stakes its claim as a good destination to invest in due to its political, economic, financial, and social stability, qualified human resources, technological knowledge developed in strategic sectors, geographical location, competitive and sustainable energy, and commitment to administrative simplification.
Investment in Santa Maria da Feira strengthens partnership with Germany
Referring to the investment by Lufthansa Technik, Luís Montenegro claimed that the project represents an opportunity to boost an aeronautical ecosystem that is already consolidated in Portugal and deepen the relationship the German group has had with the country for several decades.
The Prime Minister recalled that during his recent trip to Berlin, a new cycle of the strategic partnership with Portugal and Germany was begun, guided to reinforce Europe's economic competitiveness.
He therefore considered that the new Santa Maria da Feira unit is "a good example of what the relations between Portugal and Germany can be".
