Safety priority in Stafford during Christmas party season

15/12/2025

Taxi marshals will be helping Christmas revellers get home safely during the festive period in Stafford.

The marshals will be at the main taxi rank in the town centre between 10pm and 4am on key dates over Christmas to help party-goers.

The joint initiative is funded by Stafford Borough Council and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as supporting those who are vulnerable, at taxi ranks in the town.

They are usually on hand during Friday and Saturday nights but will be available because of the increased footfall expected on Wednesdays for Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

The marshals will also be in close contact with the Borough Council's CCTV control room to help keep the town centre safe.

Councillor Jill Hood, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "We are in the busiest time of the year for people to be out in our pubs, clubs and restaurants enjoying Christmas parties and meals with family, colleagues and friends - and we want that experience to be an enjoyable one.

"This is why we are pleased to have the marshals in place at the taxi rank to make sure people are safe as they head home after a great night out."

Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Ben Adams said: "Everyone should be able to enjoy the festive period safely. I welcome the introduction of taxi marshals in Stafford and hope that they will help to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area while ensuring people get home successfully."
