Minnesota State Moorhead School Psychology program earns national accreditation

Minnesota State Moorhead's graduate School Psychology program has earned full accreditation from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), receiving the maximum seven-year accreditation term effective August 1, 2026, through August 1, 2033.

Minnesota State Moorhead is one of only two institutions in Minnesota with a NASP-accredited School Psychology specialist program. The accreditation affirms that the program meets rigorous national standards for training school psychologists and prepares graduates to meet the needs of students, families and schools.

The seven-year accreditation recognizes the program's high-quality curriculum, comprehensive field experiences and commitment to student success. It also enhances graduates' professional credentialing and employment opportunities while attracting future students to the field.

"We are pleased NASP recognized the success, quality and depth of our program," says school psychology professor Dr. Lisa Stewart. "We are grateful to our faculty, administration, staff, students, alumni and community partners who made this achievement possible."

Students in Moorhead's School Psychology program earn both a Master of Science (MS) degree and a Specialist (PsyS) degree in three to four years. The program combines academic coursework with hands-on training experiences that prepare graduates for careers supporting student learning and mental health.

In its accreditation report, NASP highlighted several strengths of the program, including the strong support students receive from faculty and the university, meaningful cohort and alumni connections, and the program's flexibility for remote learners.
