Week's events: Legacy Lecture, brain and sound, tribal libraries, jazz
University of Alaska Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here's what's happening during the week of June 1-7:

On Monday, June 1, the 2026 Legacy Lecture will honor Leonard Kamerling. Kamerling, UAF professor of English and curator of film emeritus, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and ethnographer with more than 50 years of experience documenting Alaska Native and world cultures. The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the University of Alaska Museum of the North.

On Tuesday, June 2, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Lily Hughes, audiologist, discussing "Why Hearing Matters: How Sound Shapes the Human Brain."

On Wednesday, June 3, the Discover Alaska lecture series will feature Tyson Rinio, assistant professor of library science, discussing "Cultural Relevance in Tribal Libraries." The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.

On Thursday, June 4, the Music in the Garden concert series will feature the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band at 6 p.m. and the Badger Street Jazz Band at 7 p.m. at UAF's Georgeson Botanical Garden.
All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the UAF Troth Yeddha' Campus is free after 5 p.m.
