Buchanan Votes to Keep Government Open, While Democrats Vote for Shutdown

House Republicans Are Protecting American Tax Dollars

WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Vern Buchanan, Vice Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement after voting in favor of a continuing resolution to fund the government through November 21, 2025:

"House Republicans voted to keep the government open while protecting American taxpayers' hard-earned dollars from a costly shutdown. This clean continuing resolution protects the Working Families Tax Cuts, ensures our servicemembers get paid and keeps critical services running for the American people. A shutdown would jeopardize our national security, disrupt Social Security and Medicare benefits for seniors, and block access to critical programs like disaster relief and border security. This clean continuing resolution allows Congress to finish the appropriations process in a responsible way.

"It also provides a short-term extension of the hospital-at-home waiver, but much more needs to be done. I'm calling on my colleagues to pass my bipartisan Hospital Inpatient Services Modernization Act, which would fully extend this program through 2030. While Republicans are fighting for the people we represent, Democrats voted against pay for our troops, against peace of mind for seniors and against keeping the government open."

Buchanan is a respected leader in Florida's business community and has created thousands of jobs over the course of his career. He previously chaired both the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee.
