23 December 2025, Chișinău - The Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved today positive advisory opinions for the agreed candidacies of four ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova.
Mihai Mîțu is to be appointed as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Romania, Victor Chirilă as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine, Petru Frunze as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the People's Republic of China, and Lorina Bălteanu as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the French Republic.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi noted that the selection of the new ambassadorial team followed strict criteria of professionalism, competence, and relevant experience.
"These nominations reflect our commitment to an effective and credible representation of the Republic of Moldova in international relations. The proposed candidates possess the expertise needed to promote our country's interests in complex bilateral and multilateral contexts," stated Mihai Popșoi.
Mihai Mîțu is a career diplomat with over 20 years of experience in Moldova's diplomatic service. He has served in the central apparatus of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in diplomatic missions in Sweden, the United States, and Romania, holding positions in diplomatic protocol, consular affairs, and external representation. Since 2022, he has served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contributing to institutional capacity building, internal management modernization, and digitalization of consular services. He also coordinated the organization of the European Political Community Summit held in Moldova in 2023.
Victor Chirilă is a career diplomat with more than 20 years of experience in foreign policy. He is currently concluding his mandate as Ambassador to Romania. Over his career, he has held senior and expert positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, served as Principal State Advisor for Foreign Policy in the Moldovan Government, and as Political Affairs Advisor at Moldova's Embassy in the United States. He has also worked on international projects implemented by the European Union, World Bank, and UNHCR.
Petru Frunze is a lawyer and politician with over 15 years of experience in local and central public administration as well as legislative activity. He served as a Member of Parliament and held leadership roles in local administration, including as President of the Association of Mayors in Ialoveni District and Vice-President of the Congress of Local Authorities in Moldova. In Parliament, he chaired the Moldova-Romania Friendship Group and co-chaired the Joint Commission for European Integration.
Lorina Bălteanu is a well-known figure in the cultural and artistic field, with experience in international cooperation, cultural diplomacy, and program management. Based in Paris, she coordinates international cultural projects in collaboration with French and European institutions. Previously, she served as Director of the Medialog media group in Chișinău and as Founding Director of the Soros Foundation Moldova, overseeing programs in education, culture, and media.
The four approved ambassadors will be able to begin their mandates after completing all legal procedures, including formal appointment by Government decision and presidential decree.
