President Gitanas Nausėda extended congratulations to President Tamás Sulyok and the people of Hungary on the occasion of their National Day.
The President underlined that the courage of the Hungarian people to resist oppression and their self-sacrifice in defense of fundamental values, demonstrated during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, became a source of inspiration and hope for Lithuanians as well as for other nations of Central and Eastern Europe in their struggle for freedom.
"Today, our countries-united by shared historical experiences and a deep understanding of the price of freedom-cooperate successfully within NATO. We are grateful to Hungary for its contribution to ensuring the security of the Baltic region through participation in the air policing missions in Lithuania. I am confident that we will continue to strengthen our partnership in defense and security, remain united, and not allow anyone to question the determination of allies to defend one another," the President wrote in his message of congratulations.
He further noted that cooperation within the Three Seas Initiative and the accelerated implementation of joint infrastructure projects provide an appropriate response to the threats facing the security of our region and Europe as a whole.
The President wished Hungary and its people continued success, peace and prosperity.
