Honors

Kathryn Jasper, HIS, has been awarded a third year of funding from Illinois State's Advancing Research and Creative Scholarship (ARCS) program to support her archaeological project in Italy. For more information, see the news story "Cline and Jasper awarded third year of prestigious ARCS funding."

Presentations

Janice Jayes, HIS, participated in a panel discussing "Independent Presses against the AI machine" as part of the 25th anniversary for the Independent Media Center of Urbana Champaign.

Greg Carter, HIS, participated in the following:

  • Presented his paper, "Creating Historical Memory on Riverless Islands" at the Association for Studies of the Worldwide African Diaspora (ASWAD) international conference in St. Louis;
  • Participated in a new author's Q&A roundtable at the African Studies Association international conference in Atlanta, Ga.; and
  • Staffed a history department exhibit called "Seasonality in the American Past" at the Illinois State University Horticulture Center's annual autumnal festival.

Publications

Greg Carter, HIS, published a book, Backtime Religion in the Danish West Indies: Africana Heritage Religion Beyond Obeah .

William Thomas McBride, ENG, published a chapter, "Marty Two Bad: Scorsese's Philosophy of Shots and the Music Video," in Neglected Scorsese - Overlooked Films, Television Shows, and Commercials.

Pirmin Nietlisbach, Scott K. Sakaluk and Charles F. Thompson, all BSC, co-authored "Double brooding in house wrens is repeatable but constrained by time-of-season" in Behavioral Ecology.

Ryan Paitz and Rachel M. Bowden, both BSC, co-authored "Responsiveness to cold snaps by turtle embryos depends on exposure timing and duration" in Proceedings of the Royal Society.

Ben Sadd and Scott K. Sakaluk, both BSC, co-authored "RNA interference reveals that male nuptial gift proteins affect female behavior to increase male paternity share in decorated crickets" in Evolution.
