CHICAGO - Special Agent in Charge Dai Tran, of the U.S. Secret Service - Chicago Field Office, has announced the appointment of David Bolin as resident agent in charge of the Springfield Resident Office.
In his new role, Bolin will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Springfield Resident Office and for overseeing the special agents fulfilling their investigative and protective missions.
The Springfield Resident Office's district encompasses 84 counties in Illinois, all south of Interstate 80.
"I'm grateful for this appointment and proud to lead the Springfield Resident Office. It is a tremendous honor and responsibility and one that I do not take lightly," Bolin said. "I was hired out of this office and am excited to return and make a difference in the communities within our district."
A native of Madison County, Illinois, Bolin graduated from Maquette Catholic High School in Alton in 1997 and attended Western Illinois University. After his freshman year at WIU, Bolin enlisted in the U.S. Army and rose to the rank of sergeant.
Bolin completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, with the 3rd Armored Calvary Division. He deployed to Bosnia in 2000 and Egypt in 2001 with the 3rd ACR. After four years in the U.S. Army, he returned to Madison County where he graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.
In 2006, Bolin began his career with the U.S. Secret Service as a special agent in the Chicago Field Office. In 2014, he transferred to Washington D.C. and was assigned to the Vice Presidential Protective Division.
In 2020, he transferred to the Dignitary Protective Division and assisted with the coordination of multiple National Special Security Events. In late 2020, he was promoted to assistant to the special agent in charge and returned to the Vice Presidential Protective Division as a supervisor. In 2023, he transferred back to the Chicago Field Office as an assistant to the special agent in charge until October 2025, when he was named the resident agent in charge of the Springfield Resident Office.
Bolin's U.S. Secret Service career spans more than 19 years with a total of 23 years dedicated service to the Federal Government.
