Mayor Kraham Announces Extra Traffic Patrols Underway For Summer

- Increased Enforcement Focusing On Speeding, Other Traffic Violations In City Park Zones -

(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.) - Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday announced the Binghamton Police Department has added extra traffic patrols for summer, with a focus on reducing speeding near City parks.

Mayor Kraham said: "With school out for the summer, Binghamton's parks are busy with families and residents of every age enjoying time outdoors. Binghamton Police are increasing traffic enforcement in City park zones over the summer months, cracking down on speeding and other violations that put kids and other pedestrians at risk. Binghamton is a great place to live in part because it's a walkable city with accessible parks in every neighborhood. Alongside walking and bike patrols and other community policing initiatives, these extra traffic details are part of our work to improve neighborhood safety across Binghamton."

In addition to park zones, Binghamton Police will focus enforcement on high-traffic residential areas, school zones and hospital zones.

The Police Department will also use a portable speed trailer, which displays drivers' speed as they pass, to help deter speeding.
