LEGL A485: Tribal Courts and Alaska Native Rights

The 3 credit upper-division course 'LEGL A485: Tribal Courts and Alaska Native Rights' will be held in the summer semester.

This course explores the powerful intersection of law, culture and sovereignty in Alaska. This course offers an in-depth look at:

  • The legal relationship between Alaska Natives and government entities
  • Tribal sovereignty and self-governance in the U.S.
  • The history and impact of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act
  • How tribal courts operate, especially within Alaska

Whether their pursuing legal studies, political science, sociology, or have a passion for Indigenous Rights, LEGL A485 will deepen students' understanding of Alaska's legal landscape and Native justice systems.
