Stanislaus State Named an Opportunity College and University by the Carnegie Classifications

Stanislaus State has been designated as an Opportunity College and University - Higher Access, Higher Earnings by the Carnegie Classifications, recognizing the University as a model for how campuses can foster student success through access and economic mobility.

The Opportunity Colleges and Universities - Higher Access, Higher Earnings designation is part of the newly developed Student Access and Earnings Classification, released this month by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education (ACE). The classification measures how well institutions enroll students who reflect the demographics of their communities and how those students' earnings compare to peers in their geographic area.

In 2025, just 16 percent of U.S. colleges and universities included in the classification - 479 institutions - received the Opportunity College and University designation.

The methodology for the Student Access and Earnings Classification uses multidimensional groupings from the 2025 Institutional Classification to assess student access and earnings among similar institutions.
