Des Moines University Expands Global Health Opportunities With New International Rotation Sites

Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences has added three new international rotation locations through its Department of Global Health, available to students beginning in 2025. The new sites - Italy, Greece and Sri Lanka - will provide students with unique, hands-on experiences in diverse health care settings while deepening their understanding of global health challenges and cultural contexts.

The addition of these locations allows DMU to improve lives globally and prepare students for health care careers in an increasingly interconnected world. Each site offers students exposure to distinct health care models, furthering their cultural competence and clinical skills.

"Our international rotations are designed to foster cultural humility and adaptability in our students, equipping them to work with diverse populations and practice in a variety of health care settings," says Amy Morris, Ph.D., DMU assistant vice president of institutional effectiveness.

The new partner locations add to DMU's current network of 13 international sites, enhancing students' opportunities to engage with different medical systems and public health approaches.

DMU's global health program offers rotation options to students from the osteopathic, podiatric, physician assistant, occupational therapy and public health programs. Each rotation is customized to match the specialties and learning goals of participating students.
