JAKARTA, 20 January 2026 - Ambassador Wang Qing presented his Letter of Credence as the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to ASEAN to the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, this afternoon at the ASEAN Headquarters/ASEAN Secretariat.

Secretary-General Dr. Kao congratulated Ambassador Wang on his appointment and welcomed Ambassador Wang to his new post. Dr. Kao underscored the significance of the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, noting that it is one of ASEAN's most dynamic, substantive and comprehensive partnerships, which has delivered concrete contributions to peace, stability, and prosperity of the two sides and of the wider region. Dr. Kao also expressed his appreciation to China's continued support of ASEAN Centrality, demonstrated through its active participation in ASEAN-led mechanisms and cooperation efforts that contribute to ASEAN Community-building and regional integration. He further affirmed the ASEAN Secretariat's readiness to work closely with Ambassador Wang and the Mission of China to ASEAN to further enhance ASEAN-China cooperation, particularly as both sides commemorate the 5^th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership this year.

Ambassador Wang thanked Secretary-General Dr. Kao for the warm welcome and expressed his honour to assume the post as the Ambassador of China to ASEAN. He expressed his commitment to working closely with ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat to advance the ASEAN-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in order to deliver tangible outcomes under ASEAN-China cooperation during his tenure.

Ambassador Wang Qing succeeds Ambassador Hou Yanqi, who completed her tenure on 22 November 2025.
