New Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) System Promotes Safety

The City of West Sacramento has completed the installation of a new GPS-based Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) system. This system is installed at signalized intersections citywide that improve emergency response and roadway safety for our police and fire departments. The devices communicate with traffic signals and emergency vehicles to reduce the risk of intersection-related collisions and enhance public safety.

The West Sacramento Fire Department has already reported improved signal responsiveness while responding to calls in the field. This project was completed through funding from Measure O and coordination between the City's Capital Projects Department, West Sacramento Fire and Police Departments, Bear Electrical Solutions, AM Signal, and Caltrans.
