By Madi Nolte, Community Engagement Coordinator
A bridge replacement project has begun on 150th Street near Anderson Access on the South Skunk River, south of Story City. The area remains open for recreational use, but with restricted access.
Users must approach Anderson Access from the east on 150th Street due to bridge closure/construction. The public water trail access will remain open for vessel take-out, although parking will be limited. No trailer parking will be available. The South Skunk River Greenbelt trails remain open. South Skunk River Water Trail users can find details about nearby river accesses at www.storycountyconservation.org.
Bridge replacement is anticipated to be completed this fall.
The South Skunk River Water Trail includes 33 mi. of river with 11 total access points, 8 of which are managed by Story County Conservation. It was designated as a State Water Trail by the Iowa DNR in 2020.
