Larson Votes Against Republican Budget that Funds Illegal Iran War

Washington, D.C. - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) voted against House Republicans' budget resolution, which includes $73 billion to fund Trump's illegal war in Iran, and $10 billion to advance the so-called "SAVE America Act," which would make it harder for millions of women, people of color, students, and active-duty troops to cast their ballots-the worst voting restrictions since Jim Crow. Today's vote follows Larson's announcement that he is preparing legal actionagainst the Trump Administration, as well as legislation, to cut off funding for the unauthorized war with Iran.

"With grocery bills on the rise and skyrocketing gas prices at the pump, working families are struggling to make ends meet, and Republicans have no plan for them," said Larson. "Rather than doing anything to lower costs, their budget hands Donald Trump $73 billion to continue his illegal war in Iran, and another $10 billion to interfere in our elections. Taxpayer dollars should be used to support the American people, not double down on this president's failed agenda and foreign wars. Congress needs to cut off funding for the war before more Americans are killed, not write a multi-billion-dollar blank check to the Pentagon. I stood with my Democratic colleagues to vote against this outrageous proposal. We will continue to fight for a budget that makes life more affordable-by lowering healthcare costs, expanding affordable housing, suspending the gas tax, and enhancing Social Security benefits."
