Donated toys will be used for a Día de los Niños event this April

CHANDLER, Ariz. - The City of Chandler is partnering with Chandler Unified School District and Chavez Media to host a toy drive through April 15.

Toy donations can be purchased online through an Amazon Wishlist. Donations also can be dropped off at the city's Neighborhood Resources Department, 235 S. Arizona Ave., between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The toys will be distributed during El Día del Niño (Children's Day), a free community celebration held at Galveston Elementary, 661 E Galveston St., on Saturday, April 25, from 1-5 p.m. This celebration is hosted by the City of Chandler, including Police, Fire, Neighborhood Programs, Recreation and Library, in partnership with local radio station La Campesina (part of Chavez Media) and Chandler Unified schools. During the event, every child who attends will go home with a new toy and a smile, while creating fun family memories.

El Día del Niño (Children's Day) is a holiday celebrated primarily in Mexico and parts of Latin America on April 30. It honors children, recognizes their importance in society, and promotes their overall well-being. In recent years, this celebration has grown in popularity in the United States.

Chandler Police and the Attorney General's Office also will host a Shred-a-Thon event on Saturday, March 28, from 8 a.m. to noon (or until trucks are full) at the Chandler Police Department Main Station, 250 E. Chicago St.

Financial, personal documents and prescriptions will be accepted. Items not accepted include: binders, binder clips, electronics, inhalers, aerosol cans, lotions or liquids, needles and hydrogen peroxide.

A $5 donation or toy is kindly asked in exchange for shredding up to five boxes. All donations will support El Día del Niño event.
