After Hearing from 150+ Virginians, Vindman Leads on Lowering Costs, Addressing Rising Inflation

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Eugene Vindman (Va.-07) today renewed his call to lower costs for working families after hearing from more than 150 Virginians through a district-wide survey who say they are feeling the effects of rising prices and increased inflation. The survey invited constituents to share their personal experiences with rising inflation and the impact on their households.

"After hearing from hundreds of Virginians frustrated by inflation and rising costs, I am working hard to deliver real relief to hardworking families," said Vindman. "Families across Virginia are being squeezed by higher utilities, groceries, and everyday essentials all thanks to Republicans' reckless war in Iran and flawed economic policies. That's why I'm continuing to call for an end to this conflict, work across the aisle to cut costs, and advance commonsense solutions that make life more affordable for working families."

BACKGROUND

Vindman has been a champion for lowering costs in Congress and making life better for working families. In May, he introduced the Diesel Prices Relief Act which would pause the diesel tax until January 1, 2027 helping farmers and truck drivers better afford their stops at the gas station.

Vindman also introduced the MISSION Rx Act to lower prescription drug costs for service members, military families, and veterans while saving taxpayers billions.

Just this week, Vindman introduced two pieces of legislation that would lower costs for families and hold utility companies accountable. The Home Energy Affordability Act would help protect consumers from repeated utility rate hikes by limiting electric utilities to one rate increase request every 365 days. The Utility Hikes Transparency Act would create the first comprehensive, machine-readable federal database of retail utility rate changes in the United States.

In February 2026, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Rural Housing Regulatory Relief Act - bipartisan legislation led by Vindman to cut red tape, lower housing costs, and increase the supply of homes in rural communities across the country.

Vindman also introduced the Cutting Cumbersome Overhead for Small-farm Testing Savings (COSTS) Act, a bipartisan bill that aims to bring down Virginians' grocery bills by allowing small farms to bring more affordable, local food into grocery stores.

Below are recent constituent stories submitted by Virginia's Seventh District residents who took the survey:

-

"Inflation is hard on almost everyone. Something needs to be done so that we can have a better quality of life." - Cynthia, Prince William

"My family and I are trying to manage as best we can. We have become even more measured with our choices of food. We don't eat out. We purchase less at the grocery stores. We drive less. This is terrible." - Howard, Stafford

"In this season of rising costs, I find myself even further from affording health care. The only person in my family that has coverage is my son." - Molly, Spotsylvania

"The price increases on the essentials - groceries, gas, and electricity bills -have left family budgets incredibly tight. With gas over $4 a gallon and utility rates continuing to rise, ordinary Virginians are playing constant catch-up." - Diana, Fredericksburg
