PASADENA, Calif - The City of Pasadena Public Works Department invites community members to take part in an engaging and interactive event highlighting proposed stormwater capture features for the Brookside Park Stormwater Capture Project. This regional water capture project aims to improve water quality in the Arroyo Seco and Los Angeles River while increasing water supply by recharging Pasadena's Raymond Basin. This experiential activity offers the public a unique opportunity to explore the project site firsthand and learn about potential stormwater improvements through visual displays and guided walking tours.
This interactive event will be held on Friday, April 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Brookside Park, Parking Lot I, 360 North Arroyo Boulevard. During the event, participants will be able to walk the project area, interact with example displays illustrating possible project features, and engage in conversations about how stormwater capture can benefit the community and local environment. Facilitated walking groups will depart every 15 minutes, allowing attendees to join at their convenience and experience the site in a structured, informative way and learn how the project will capture, treat, and infiltrate stormwater and dry weather runoff from over 1,100 acres of the city to maintain ecosystem health and address water quality improvement goals. Pasadena City Councilmember Tyron Hampton will be in attendance to meet with residents and show support for this important infrastructure and sustainability initiative.
The event is designed to bring project concepts to life, encouraging community input and dialogue while making technical information accessible through hands-on engagement. The event is a companion activity to the Design-Focused Meeting which will be held on Wednesday, April 22, from 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Mediterranean Room at the Brookside Golf Club, 1133 Rosemont Ave. This event will feature a refined project design and demonstrate how nature-based solutions are incorporated to enhance the parking lot and improve surface water quality. Attendees will be able to discover the proposed bioswale habitat, its role in stormwater management, and its watershed benefits. There will be Earth Day themed activities and refreshments for all to enjoy. Parking is available in Lot CH, D, and along Rosemont Avenue.
The Department of Public Works is leading this design with funding from the Los Angeles County Safe, Clean Water Program (SCWP) Measure W program. The SCWP provides local, dedicated funding to increase local water supply, improve water quality, and protect public health.
