Netflix unveils poster and release date for On Behalf of My Son, Gabriel Martins’ new film

São Paulo, August 27, 2026 - Four years after Mars One, Gabriel Martins returns to the screen with his new feature film. Netflix today unveils the poster and release date for On Behalf of My Son , which will arrive in select theaters on November 5 and on Netflix on November 20, launching simultaneously in more than 190 countries. The only Brazilian film selected for the 51st edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place in September, the feature will have its international premiere in the Platform section, a competitive program dedicated to standout works of contemporary cinema. The winner of the section qualifies directly for consideration for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, underscoring the significance of the selection for the film's international trajectory. On Behalf of My Son is also part of the Official Selection of the 74th San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain, where it will compete for the Golden Shell, the festival's top prize. In addition, the film will also be screened at the AFI Latin America Film Festival and the Cinelatino Minneapolis Film Festival before its national premiere in the competitive program of the 28th edition of the Rio Film Festival, taking place from October 1 to 11. At the heart of the story, Rejane Faria delivers a powerful and nuanced performance as Vicentina, guiding audiences through the complexity of a mother who, following her son's death, embarks on a journey to confront the consequences of the tragedy and come to terms with her own grief. The performance reaffirms the strength of the actress, who previously stood out in Mars One , and gives the film its emotional core. About On Behalf of My Son Synopsis: On a sunny morning in Belo Horizonte, a crowded bus makes its way toward the city center. As it crosses a viaduct, the vehicle suddenly swerves, veers off the road and plunges onto the avenue below. One passenger is critically injured, while everyone else - including Wesley, the driver - dies. The tragedy dominates television news and newspaper headlines across the country. Security cameras on the bus and along the road capture the moment of the accident, and after the footage is analyzed, speculation begins to circulate that the driver may have acted intentionally. Vicentina, a 75-year-old retired teacher and Wesley's mother, is devastated by the tragedy and unsure of how to move forward. She decides to seek out the families of the victims and apologize. The path ahead proves difficult, and the answers Vicentina is searching for are not always the ones she finds.
