The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) concluded Exercise Singapan, a bilateral naval exercise between the two countries. Held from 26 to 28 August 2026 in the waters off Japan in the Pacific Ocean, the exercise saw the participation of the RSN's Formidable-class frigate RSS Steadfast and the JMSDF's Asagiri-class destroyer JS Hamagiri and Akizuki-class destroyer JS Teruzuki.

During the exercise, both sides exchanged sea riders and conducted a series of conventional warfare serials. These included gunnery firings, communication exercises, and manoeuvring serials. Personnel from both sides also engaged in exercise planning and ship visits ashore.

Commander First Flotilla, Colonel (COL) Carlin Song, and Commander Surface Warfare Squadron Nine, Captain (CAPT) Iwade Yohei, co-officiated at the opening ceremony at Yokosuka Naval Base on 27 August 2026. Highlighting the importance of continued cooperation, COL Song said, "The RSN and JMSDF share a warm and friendly relationship, built on professional exchanges, exercises, and ship visits. This bilateral exercise reflects our commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening friendships."

RSS Steadfast recently hosted Navy@Tokyo from 21 to 22 August 2026, before the commencement of Exercise Singapan.
