FDNY releases new PSA about lithium-ion batteries and reminds New Yorkers about proper disposal

The FDNY released a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to remind New Yorkers about the proper disposal of lithium-ion batteries.
Rechargeable batteries that are found in micromobility devices and household items should never be thrown in household trash or recycling. It is illegal and dangerous.
To get rid of non-alkaline batteries, you can:
- Find a drop-off location at a store near you
- Visit a Special Waste Drop-Off Site
- Bring them to a SAFE Disposal Event
