During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, our team took time out to recognize the heroes who work tirelessly each day behind the scenes in Walker County. Here are some of their accomplishments over the past year:
Theresa Parker Dispatcher of the Year: Beth McJunkin Plott
Beth has five years of experience as a dispatcher. She was chosen by her peers for her dedication and compassion for her job. She goes above and beyond on each and every call, putting her callers at ease and providing them with excellent care. She is always willing to help out her co-workers in any way. One co-worker stated that if her family ever had to call 911, she hoped Beth was the dispatcher to answer because she knew Beth would get them the help they needed as quickly as possible and would be compassionate to their needs.
Beth also received two Lifesaver awards for providing CPR instructions that successfully revived the patients. One occured on 11-10-2024 and the other was on 08-26-2024.
In addition, Beth received two Above and Beyond awards. The County received emails from two different parties praising Beth for her compassion and professionalism when they called 911. One was for a medical call on 08-13-2024. The other call occurred on 09-29-2024 and involved assistance for an elderly woman who did not have any power. She put the caller at ease and assisted her in her time of need.
The Theresa Parker Dispatcher of the Year award was first awarded in 2010, in honor of Parker, who was tragically murdered. A plaque with the names of all former recipients of the Theresa Parker Dispatcher of the Year award hangs in the hallway at the Walker County E-911 building.
