WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Seth Moulton (MA-06) issued the following statement after the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia paused the Trump administration's effort to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians, just one day before protections were set to expire:
"This ruling brings relief to hundreds of thousands of Haitians who were facing the unthinkable: being forced to leave the country they've called home for years. Deporting people back to a place as dangerous and unstable as Haiti is as wrong as it is inhumane," said Congressman Moulton. "TPS holders are our neighbors. They work in our schools and small businesses, and provide critical services in our health care industry. I'm grateful the court has stepped in, and I'll keep working with my colleagues to not only protect TPS, but fight toward permanent status to ensure Haitian immigrants can continue contributing to our communities and economies without fear of deportation."
The federal ruling comes following a January 20th field hearingfeaturing Congressman Moulton, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) at Jubilee Christian Church in Mattapan to spotlight the urgent need to extend TPS for Haiti. The hearing brought together individuals, advocates, and local leaders who shared firsthand how ending TPS would disrupt families, hurt communities, and betray the values we stand for.
