ECHA/NR/25/34
Helsinki, 24 October 2025 - The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have signed an updated Memorandum of Cooperation, strengthening the agencies' commitment to advancing sustainability, innovation and safety in the aviation and chemical sectors.
The aim is to ensure the protection of human health and the environment, while fostering a competitive and resilient European industry.
The aviation industry uses chemicals with very specific characteristics, for example, to prevent corrosion and to withstand the extreme conditions in flight. EASA certification ensures that these aviation safety standards are met. At the same time, EU chemical regulations ensure that these same chemicals do not harm health or the environment.
The two agencies will collaborate on areas of common interest, exchange information and work programmes, participate in joint meetings and working groups, consult each other and undertake joint projects and communication activities.
The new memorandum replaces the original agreement from 2017 and updates to reflect the current legal frameworks governing the two agencies.
