Employee Spotlight: Remon Metry, Senior Traffic Specialist

If you've ever been picked up or dropped off at Tampa International Airport, chances are you've seen Remon Metry in his bright yellow uniform keeping the traffic flowing smoothly and helping travelers find their way. Recently promoted to Senior Traffic Specialist, Remon has been part of the Aviation Authority team since 2021 but has worked at the airport since 2016.

Before joining the Authority, Remon gained valuable experience with Frontier Airlines and Amazon's Prime Air operation, working both on the ramp and at the ticket counters. Those years taught him the rhythms of airport life and the importance of keeping things moving, lessons he brings to TPA's Arrivals and Departures Curbsides every day.

"Our main job is to make sure the traffic flows and that it's easy for everyone to pick up or drop off passengers," he explains.

"We also provide customer service, helping people find the right airline, parking, or just answering questions."

That customer service mindset is what Remon loves most about his job. "When I help someone, especially someone who looks lost, I imagine it's my mom or dad in that situation. It makes me feel proud when I can get them where they need to go."

Originally from Cairo, Egypt, Remon moved to the United States in 2012, spending four years in California before settling in Florida. He holds a college degree in Greek and Roman Archaeology from Ain Shams University in Cairo, which reflects his lifelong curiosity about people and cultures. His love of history runs deep, and he still lights up when talking about Egypt's ancient wonders.

"It's magical to stand in front of the pyramids and think about how people built them thousands of years ago," he says.
