BOULDER, Colo. - Boulder Police made a swift arrest this afternoon after a woman threatened a group of school children with a knife.
Just before 11 a.m. today, May 5, an unknown woman holding a knife began following a teacher and children in the 1700 block of Broadway. The woman got within 10 feet of the group and threatened to kill them, waiving the knife around, according to witnesses. The teacher and students walked away and were uninjured.
Thanks to good policework, officers were able to find and identify the suspect a short time later near 17th and Arapahoe. The suspect has been identified as Alyssa F. Barger, 31, of Arizona. She was booked into the Boulder County jail on one count of felony menacing.
Boulder Police believe there could be additional victims and ask anyone with any information about this investigation to call the Boulder Police tipline at 303-441-1974 regarding case 25-04126.
"This type of criminal behavior will not be tolerated in our community and proud of the good policework done by Officers Morris, Baddley, Harris and Hadley today to find and identify the suspect responsible for scaring these teachers and children," Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn said.
As in every criminal case, these charges are an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
