The MTA Long Island Rail Road today announced new schedules that will take effect May 11. The update includes summer service options on the Long Beach, Montauk, and Ronkonkoma branches, which will begin Monday, May 18.
There are no changes to rush hour service. Many midday weekday departure times have been adjusted to accommodate track maintenance and station accessibility projects. Some trains may depart earlier than usual.
"As we head into the busy summer season, we're expanding service to give customers more flexibility, including additional weekday options to Montauk and more direct trips to Penn Station," said LIRR President Rob Free. "These schedule adjustments also allow us to continue critical maintenance and accessibility work so we can deliver safe, reliable service."
Beginning Monday, May 18, the 5:13 p.m. train from Penn Station to Speonk-which normally operates to Montauk on summer Thursdays and Fridays-will operate to Montauk, making all stops Monday through Friday throughout the summer. This will give East End travelers more options and help disperse ridership to Montauk throughout the week.
For service to the city from Montauk, the 11:37 a.m. and 4:18 p.m. Sunday Montauk Branch trains will operate through to Penn Station, offering customers more one-seat rides. These trains will run on all Sundays except holiday weekends, when they will operate on Mondays (Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends).
Other changes LIRR riders should be aware of are outlined below.
Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson Branches
A new weekday train will depart Farmingdale at 4:32 a.m., stopping at Bethpage, Hicksville, Westbury, Mineola, New Hyde Park, Jamaica, and Penn Station, arriving at 5:26 a.m.
Customer note: The 4:12 a.m. train from Ronkonkoma will now depart at 4:14 a.m. and will no longer stop at Farmingdale, Bethpage, Hicksville, or Mineola.
Midday weekday service at Westbury has been restored to every 30 minutes following the completion of track work.
Greenport Service
Midday weekday train service east of Ronkonkoma resumes May 11.
Brooklyn Service
Weekday evening service between Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal will be reduced to every 30 minutes starting at 9:00 p.m. for westbound trains and 10:00 p.m. for eastbound trains.
