WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05), Co-Chair of the Congressional Friends of Denmark Caucus, will depart for Copenhagen, Denmark on a bipartisan, bicameral congressional delegation to highlight more than 200 years of friendship between the United States and the Kingdom of Denmark, including enduring national security ties and decades of economic cooperation. The delegation will be in Copenhagen Friday, January 16, and Saturday, January 17. Some members of the delegation will continue on to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The delegation will meet with Danish and Greenlandic government and business leaders. The trip will highlight Congress' bipartisan support for our alliance with Denmark and explore ways to deepen that cooperation to enhance our mutual security in the Arctic and beyond, support commerce, and uphold our shared values of democracy, sovereignty, and international law.
Congressman Hoyer will be joined on the trip by U.S. Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Dick Durbin (D-IL), and U.S. Representatives Gregory Meeks (NY-05), Madeleine Dean (PA-04), Sara Jacobs (CA-51), and Sarah McBride (DE). Additional Members are expected to join the delegation as well.
"As the son of a Danish father and American mother, I know how important the U.S.-Denmark relationship is to our economy, our security, and our people," Congressman Hoyer said. "Contrary to the bluster coming from the White House, Denmark has been a model ally. I wish America could say the same. I hope this delegation will make it clear that Donald Trump's dangerous threats against Greenland and Denmark do not reflect the views of the American people or the Congress."
