SR 1/US 27 Intersection in LaGrange Scheduled to Close Friday

WHAT: During utility relocation associated with the State Route 1/US 27Hamiliton Road widening in LaGrange, a contractor encountered an issue underneath the road at the intersection with SR 219/Morgan Street. The Georgia Department of Transportation is working with several contractors to get the issue resolved with minimal impact to the traveling public. However, the work will require closing SR 1/US 27 at the intersection of SR 219. The detour will route traffic to SR 109, to Interstate 85 (Exit 18), to SR 1 (Exit 14) and to SR 219 (Exit 13). Signs will be placed throughout the detour to assist motorists. Drivers are encouraged to drive alertly through the area and reduce their speeds. This is estimated to be a short-term closure and detour, but as with any construction, the timeline could change due to field conditions and weather.

WHEN: The detour is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, and is expected to remain in place for seven to 10 days.

WHERE: SR 1/US 27/Hamilton Road at SR 219/Morgan Street in LaGrange, Troup County.

Advisory: Dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
