Traffic shift delayed on Route 8 bridge project in Washington County

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Due to scheduling issues, the planned traffic shift on the Washington County bridge deck rehabilitation project on Missouri Route 8 over the Union Pacific Railroad has been pushed to the week of March 2, following guardrail installation and striping. Following the completion of the guardrail installation, which began today, Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, and is scheduled to continue next week, the roadway will be striped and traffic will then be shifted onto the new half of the bridge. With precipitation and colder temperatures in the forecast, this work could be delayed again.

Once traffic has shifted, the contractor can begin rehabilitating the second half of the bridge. During this work, traffic will continue to be narrowed to a single lane controlled by temporary signals, as it has been throughout the project.

Pending weather or other complications, the contractor has set a goal of completing the project in April 2026.
