Marietta Power and Water Reminds Customers to Stay Aware of Utility Imposter Scams
Scammers sometimes pose as electric or water company representatives by phone, text, or even at your door, claiming your bill is overdue and threatening to shut off service.
Here are a few red flags to keep in mind:
• Requests for payment through wire transfer, gift card, prepaid debit card, or digital wallet app.
• Pressure to pay immediately.
• Someone showing up unannounced and asking to enter your home. A legitimate utility representative will not do this.
