Lady A's Charles Kelley Hails Wife Cassie 'A Rock Star' Amid His Cancer Journey

Charles Kelley hailed his wife "a rock star" in his latest update after announcing his diagnosis with a "rare" cancer.

Kelley, 45, sat beside his wife, Cassie Kelley, 43, as he shared "a quick update on some health issues I'm dealing with," earlier this week. "I had a couple random rib fractures that happened, which sparked, you know, my doctor and to have me do several different blood tests. And one of the last blood tests we did, they found a blood cancer in there called multiple myeloma, and it's rare. …But we're gonna get through it," he said, assuring fans that he's "hopeful."

"It has been a day. My wife is a rock star, by the way," Kelley said in an update on his Instagram story on Wednesday (September 30). "It has just been a day, man, trying to get together with some doctors and get a plan together. And man, you know, just kind of going through those things, like, 'do I get a second opinion?' 'Do we do this?' ...It's a whirlwind, trying to do the right thing. But I also feel blessed that we have options.

"I have a love-hate relationship with social media, and through this process the past couple days, I have seen a glimmering light of hope for this connection that we have here," he continued on the next slide. Kelley said by sharing his story, he's been able to talk with others who have been through it. He said they've been able to talk with him about their experiences and help connect him with doctors in conversations that have been "little God-wink moments."

In a previous update, Kelley said on his Instagram story that he was "overwhelmed by the support. …I just feel like there's gotta be purpose to everything," he said. "I'm just hopeful, man."

Kelley's Lady A bandmates, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, were among many commenters to offer support. Scott said Kelley and his wife are "the strongest duo right there! Love y'all so much! You've got this! ❤️" Haywood wrote, "covering you in prayer brother. Love y'all. We're all here for you!"
