Meet the Techs Behind the Technology at THE PLAYERS Championship 2026

As millions get ready to watch THE PLAYERS Championship, highly trained professionals are working behind the scenes to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. The Comcast all-stars working at TPC Sawgrass include Daniel Jarnutowski, Michael Mitton, Eric Beckham and Ken Merritt. The team helped bring next-gen connectivity to the golf course by installing the sophisticated technology needed to power the Internet and bring the tournament to life.

THE PLAYERS Championship takes place March 12 to 15 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. 123 golfers will compete for the one of the largest purses of a single professional golf tournament, a record $25 million. Comcast Business is a Proud Partner of the premier sporting event.

Jarnutowski and Mitton, both Comcast Business technicians, are part of the on-the ground team that laid high-tech lines to every hole. The trained professionals said it's a career highlight to be part of the action.

"My favorite part of working THE PLAYERS is the positive energy and team atmosphere. It isn't just one single person doing this, we come together and rely on each other to bring the connectivity of this event to life," Jarnutowski said. "This is my second year on the team, and I'm learning more each time I come to the course."

Mitton is a new addition to THE PLAYERS team this year. After attending the tournament as a spectator for 30 years, he finally got his chance to work behind the scenes.

"We do a lot of work out here, but being at the beautiful TPC Sawgrass makes it all worth it. We're running lines across the course to get the Internet up and running," Mitton said. "Being a part of this team has been a once in a lifetime experience. It's like getting to look behind the curtain to see how it all works."

Eric Beckham is a Senior Communications Technician on the Network Maintenance team. His role at THE PLAYERS includes making sure the network stays operational during the event.

"I love being at THE PLAYERS and getting everything ready for the spectators to have a seamless connectivity experience while they're here," Beckham said. "I thrive in fast-paced situations and being a part of this for two years in a row has been an incredible experience."

THE PLAYERS Championship is the PGA TOUR's flagship event and one of the most demanding connectivity environments in professional sports, supported by nearly 600 miles of fiber infrastructure deployed across the course and broadcast operations. With hundreds of thousands of fans expected on the grounds across tournament week, and last year's Saturday setting a single-day attendance record, the scale of what Comcast Business must support is significant. At peak moments of play - a Sunday charge up the leaderboard, a clutch putt on the iconic 17th Island Green - tens of thousands of simultaneous device connections will be active across TPC Sawgrass, as fans capture, stream, and share in real time while national broadcast crews distribute live coverage to millions of viewers at home.

As the connectivity partner of THE PLAYERS Championship at The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, Comcast Business is powering on-course operations, deploying targeted WiFi 7 across the tournament's highest-traffic fan zones, and providing the dedicated network infrastructure that supports NBC Sports' national broadcast coverage of one of golf's most-watched events.

Targeted WiFi in High-Demand Fan Zones

Enhanced WiFi powered by Comcast Business will be available in select, high-density areas across the course, including:

  • The Bowl (16 Fairway & Green; 17 Fairway & Green)

  • 18 Tee

  • The Grove / Food Court

  • Sawgrass Square & The Comcast Business Pavilion

  • Patriots Outpost

Rather than distributing network resources uniformly across the course, this design concentrates capacity where spectator density - and demand - is highest. The infrastructure is continuously monitored throughout the week, keeping fans connected and the broadcast on air when it matters most.

Powering NBC Sports' Broadcast

Beyond the course, Comcast Business is providing the underlying network transport infrastructure that supports NBC Sports' coverage of THE PLAYERS Championship - connecting broadcast hubs, studios, and distribution points through a dedicated, high-capacity fiber network that carries live video and data reliably to millions of viewers.

Merritt, Senior Comcast Business Installation & Service Technician, is working his seventh year at TPC. This event, and being a part of building the course's connectivity, is something he looks forward to every year.

Merritt tests signal strength at TPC Sawgrass in preparation for THE PLAYERS Championship.

"It is such an honor to be a part of THE PLAYERS every year. It's one of the biggest events we have in Northeast Florida," Merritt said. "Of course we are out here working hard, running drops and putting cable boxes and modems out, but one of my favorite parts is the other things we get to do while being here. I had the opportunity to help with Operation Shower, the baby shower held for military moms, by helping deliver some of the larger gifts to their homes that couldn't fit in their cars. Being able to give back is a special part of this experience."

Tee Up Your Future

As pro golfers prepared to tee off at THE PLAYERS Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, 50 Duval County students visited the PGA TOUR Global Home for a day of career exploration, networking and inspiration.

What they didn't know was that THE PLAYERS had partnered with Comcast for a big surprise. Samuel Waltzer, Comcast's Senior Manager of Government Affairs in Northeast Florida, announced that each student would be going home with a brand-new laptop from Comcast Business. He shared that his favorite moment was hearing one student say they could now run their business with their new device.

Charity of the Day with Operation New Uniform

Comcast Business presented $25,000 to Jacksonville-based organization Operation New Uniform, which helps Servicemembers and Veterans find their "new uniform"-a fulfilling career in the business world.

"Today, we're here to uplift the incredible impact of Operation New Uniform, or ONU, an organization founded in 2014 to help servicemembers, veterans, and military spouses transition into purposeful, stable civilian careers." said Michelle Oyola McGovern, Vice President of Government Affairs at Comcast Florida.

"Comcast has been an incredible supporter of our military for years, and we are absolutely blessed to be the recipient of this check that will go to great use," said Michele McManamon, CEO & Co-Founder, Operation New Uniform. "We serve military spouses, Veterans, and Active Duty Servicemembers that are transitioning out of the military and into the business world. We're giving them the confidence to get careers, not jobs, when they leave the military."
