Liver Awareness Month

By virtue of the authority vested by the Constitution of Virginia in the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, there is hereby officially recognized:

Liver Awareness Month

WHEREAS, liver disease affects millions of Americans, including Virginians, and can result from alcohol use, viral hepatitis, metabolic disease, and other causes, potentially leading to serious health complications; and

WHEREAS, liver disease can progress with few or no symptoms and is often underdiagnosed, making awareness, prevention, and early detection essential; and

WHEREAS, healthy lifestyle choices, early diagnosis, and access to effective medical care can help prevent disease progression and improve health outcomes; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's medical and research communities continue to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of liver disease, while patients and families contribute to progress through participation in clinical research and awareness efforts; and

WHEREAS, Virginians and their families, healthcare providers, and community organizations can participate in events to raise awareness of liver disease, its risk factors, prevention, and treatment;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Abigail D. Spanberger, Governor, do hereby recognize October 2026 as LIVER AWARENESS MONTH in the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, and I call this observance to the attention of all our citizens.
