Gov. Rhoden's Investment in Southeast Tech Students Takes Shape
PIERRE, S.D. - Today, Governor Larry Rhoden's investment in Southeast Technical College students came to fruition with the groundbreaking of the school's new James Abdnor Center for Advanced Manufacturing and welding lab expansion. You can find a photo from the groundbreaking here.
"The best investment we can make is in the next generation," said Governor Larry Rhoden. "Southeast Tech continues to create opportunities for South Dakota students to grow and thrive. I trust this new expansion will open even more doors for South Dakota students to build successful futures right here at home."
Governor Rhoden and the South Dakota State Legislature previously appropriated $6 million from the general fund through SB 79 to support a new advanced manufacturing laboratory space and classrooms for students at Southeast Technical College.
Southeast Tech continues to play a key role in opening opportunities for South Dakotans. Last year, Governor Rhoden and the Governor's Office of Economic Development awarded future fund dollars to equip Southeast Tech with the resources they needed to offer on-site instruction at the South Dakota State Penitentiary. The program provides incarcerated individuals the opportunity to earn a diesel heavy equipment certificate, gaining valuable skills to prepare for life after release.
