Dubuque County Historical Society Hosts New Haunted History Tours, Annual Mad Scientist Fun Day this October
DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Dubuque County Historical Society is celebrating Halloween all month long with new Haunted History Tours for adults at the Mathias Ham Historic Site on Friday nights in October, and its annual Mad Scientist Fun Day for families and guests of all ages at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Haunted History Tours will run from 6:30-9 p.m. on Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 30, starting at the Mathias Ham Historic Site. The night of thrills begins at the Mathias Ham House, where guests will spend an hour exploring the darker side of the historic home and hear unsettling takes about the Dubuque area. At 7:30 p.m., all will climb aboard a Trolleys of Dubuque trolley for a tour of four of the city's most haunted locations and hear local legends come alive. The route includes a stop at the Riverboat Lounge in the Hotel Julien Dubuque, where guests can purchase a cocktail at a place steeped in its own mysterious history. Finally, the trolley will loop back to where it began, capping off an unforgettable night of spooky exploration.
The tours are for ages 21 and older. Space is limited, and tickets must be purchased in advance at rivermuseum.org/events/haunted-history-tours.
For fun for all ages, Mad Scientist Fun Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 25 at the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. The day will include the ever-popular underwater pumpkin carving by NMRMA aquarists, games, crafts, and spooky science experiments, along with chances to meet some of the museum's animals up close. Costumes are encouraged for ghosts and ghouls of all ages.
All regular daily programming at the River Museum will continue throughout the day. The event is included with general admission and free for members.
