ABU and Hong Kong Information Services Department Sign MOU to Strengthen Media Cooperation

Hong Kong, 22 August 2026 - The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Information Services Department (ISD) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation to strengthen collaboration and exchanges in media and communications.

The agreement, signed in Hong Kong by ABU Secretary-General Ahmed Nadeem and Director of Information Services John Tse, establishes cooperation on media and communications, joint events, international promotion of Hong Kong through ABU platforms, and professional exchanges involving media representatives from ABU member organisations.

This is the first MOU of its kind signed by ISD with a regional broadcasting union.

Mr Tse said the ABU's extensive international network closely aligns with ISD's objective of engaging regional and global media. Through the partnership, ISD will support ABU members by providing accurate and up-to-date news, information and media materials about Hong Kong.

Initial activities are expected to include a visit to Hong Kong by senior and mid-level editorial representatives from ABU member organisations towards the end of 2026. ISD will also support the ABU in hosting media-related events in Hong Kong in 2027.

The cooperation will create new opportunities for ABU members to gain first-hand insights into Hong Kong's latest developments and strengthen exchanges with media and communications professionals in the city.

The partnership is also expected to support international communication surrounding the 30^th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in 2027, highlighting developments and emerging opportunities in business, investment, education, arts and culture.

The MOU reflects the ABU's continuing commitment to expanding international cooperation, creating professional opportunities for its members and strengthening connections between broadcasters, institutions and communities across the Asia-Pacific and beyond.
