Vocus, Australia's specialist digital infrastructure provider, today launched 400G terrestrial intercapital services spanning the continent between the east and west coasts.
The new systems offer 400G Wavelength Ethernet speeds between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in the east to Adelaide and Perth in the west.
The rollout of the ultra-high-speed services is the culmination of a multi-year investment program aimed at staying ahead of Australia's growing demand for data transit. By deploying advanced optical technologies, Vocus is a market leader in delivering 400G Wavelength Ethernet services that are ready for customer activation.
"Vocus' Engineering teams have accomplished an extraordinary feat by lighting up 400G Wavelength Ethernet services across one of the world's longest terrestrial routes," said Jarrod Nink, Interim Chief Executive, Vocus.
"We're proud to be delivering production-ready 400G Wavelength Ethernet solutions at national scale today. This is a real game-changer for enterprises and an extremely compelling proposition for hyperscalers and data centre operators. Enabling this type of performance between data centres nationally is key to supporting AI workload connectivity."
Steve Haigh, Vocus General Manager Network Engineering, said the new system employs cutting-edge technology to maximise performance across challenging terrain.
"Our new Adelaide-Perth system uses both C-band and L-band spectrum, doubling the capacity of our existing fibre with the advanced capabilities of Ciena's WaveLogic coherent technology. This new system is integrated into our existing intercapital systems on the East Coast delivering both speed and tens of terabits of new capacity over our fibre infrastructure." Mr Haigh said.
"The system's ability to deliver 400G Ethernet services between Perth and the East Coast across some of Australia's toughest and most remote terrain demonstrates the exceptional quality of our network infrastructure and teams that operate it."
"Vocus is establishing itself as a prominent service provider committed to adopting the latest optical transmission technologies to deliver enhanced digital services to its customers. With Ciena's WaveLogic coherent technology supporting its network, Vocus is ready to meet the growing need from global cloud providers for more bandwidth and tackling the opportunities in the AI era head-on," said Ivan Polizzi, Regional Managing Director, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, Ciena.
Connectivity into strategic data centres
Vocus' coast-to-coast 400G services enable easy interconnectivity between major data centre locations across the country. With on-ramp access to the new 400G links from major colocation facilities in Adelaide and Perth, including NextDC, Equinix and DCI, Vocus offers diversity and maximum Wavelength Ethernet service speed for hyperscale networks.
For Government, Enterprise and Wholesale customers, Vocus' launch of 400G services provides a scalable platform with bandwidth ready to be activated to meet projected demand. "Organisations can confidently deploy data-intensive applications and workloads between the east and west coasts, knowing that reliable services right up to multiples of 400G will be available to them," said Nink.
This latest enhancement to Vocus' intercapital service portfolio is part of an ongoing program to increase the capabilities and flexibility of the company's network assets.
"Delivering 400G services coast-to-coast is a major step forward, but we're not stopping here," said Nink. "We have a strong pipeline of projects that will continue to expand the density, diversity and performance of our network. Our aim is to keep providing our Government, Enterprise and Wholesale customers with the most innovative and reliable connectivity solutions in the market."
