The City of Simi Valley is now accepting applications from community members who are passionate about arts and culture and interested in serving on the Simi Valley Arts Commission.
"The arts bring people together, spark creativity, and strengthen the fabric of our community. Serving on the Arts Commission is an opportunity to help shape that impact and ensure Simi Valley's cultural offerings continue to thrive," said Dee Dee Cavanaugh.
The Arts Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council and plays a vital role in promoting public participation in and access to arts and cultural programs throughout the community. The Commission explores alternative funding sources, plans arts programs and events, develops a master cultural plan, applies for grants, reviews the annual financial and operational plans for the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, and reinforces the arts as a vibrant and essential component of community life.
The City encourages arts and culture professionals and patrons, educators, business and community leaders, and individuals with experience in marketing and community outreach to apply. Applications will be accepted through Friday, March 13, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., and may be submitted online at https://www.simivalley.org/ArtsCommissionApp.
The Arts Commission is comprised of five public members, one Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center Foundation member, and two City Council members. The City is currently recruiting to fill three vacancies. Appointed members will serve a two-year term from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2028. Meetings are typically held quarterly on the third Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m.
The Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, located in a historic building at the corner of Church Street and Los Angeles Avenue, first opened in 1995 and serves as a regional hub for the arts. The Center hosts theater and dance performances, youth theater classes, music events, and visual art exhibits. It also functions as a community gathering space for meetings, conferences, and special events.
