About Iowa Women's Basketball:
Iowa earned its eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance a year ago. The Hawkeyes also extended their streak of 10 straight 20-win seasons.
Head coach Jan Jensen also notched her 50th career win against FDU in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, which is the most by an Iowa head women's basketball coach in their first two seasons. Jensen's 15 Big Ten regular season victories were the most by a head women's basketball coach in their second season at the helm. Iowa's 24 regular season wins in 2025-26 are the second-most in program history over the last 26 seasons.
The Hawkeyes return Ava Heiden, Layla Hays, Journey Houston, Taylor Stremlow and Chit-Chat Wright from last season. Iowa welcomes four transfers and two prep athletes in 2026-27.
About Vanderbilt Women's Basketball:
The Commodores are coming off one of the most successful seasons this century, as Vanderbilt went 29-5 overall during the 2025-26 campaign and made its first Sweet 16 appearance in 17 years. Vandy returns a pair of starters from last season's squad in rising junior Mikayla Blakes and sophomore Aubrey Galvan. Blakes was a consensus first-team All-American a season ago and was named the 2025-26 SEC Player of the Year after leading the nation in scoring at 27.0 points per game. Galvan is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Year, as the point guard averaged 13.5 points and 5.7 assists per game. Vanderbilt is in Year 6 under the direction of Shea Ralph, who was the consensus National Coach of the Year in 2025-26. Ralph has guided the Commodores to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, while Vanderbilt has won at least 20 games in each of the last three seasons.
