Diablo V: Forging the Next Era

Igniting our celebration of 30 years, we unveiled the Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel at BlizzCon 2026. The development team revealed the first details of the world, classes, and systems taking shape in Diablo V.

You'll become the Heir to Westmarch and traverse a Sanctuary actively reshaped by Diablo, accompanied by a growing caravan of survivors. The team also unveiled the Demon Hunter, Monk, and all-new Plague Knight classes and shared how past Diablo games are inspiring a renewed focus on item depth, clarity, and identity.

These early ideas all flow from the central premise at the heart of Diablo V: the heroes of the past have failed, Sanctuary has fallen, and Diablo has won. This is the foundation for Diablo's next era, and only the beginning of what the team plans to share as development continues. Catch up on the full Diablo V: Forging the Next Era panel here:

The Lord of Terror Returns

Diablo has conquered Sanctuary, a stepping stone to invading the Heavens. Now from the throne of Westmarch, he wields Sanctuary's people and souls as weapons in the Eternal Conflict.

Diablo is no longer a distant threat waiting at the end of the journey. He is present from the moment Diablo V begins, shaping the story, the world, and your path through it.

Heir to a Lost Kingdom

As Heir to Westmarch, on the run through the charred remains of a kingdom now transformed into an outpost of Hell. Few humans have escaped Diablo's rule. Some have bowed before him or joined his cults, while a terrifying few have been corrupted into Dread Commanders and raised to rival the powers of Hell.

Your mysterious connection to Diablo makes you both a threat and uniquely vulnerable to his powerful influence.

With Sanctuary's greatest champions gone, what must you become to fight for the home taken from you?

Sanctuary, Annihilated

This is not Sanctuary waiting for the apocalypse. It is already living through one. In Diablo V, humanity has fallen into ruin, and the Western Continent is at the heart of Diablo's reign of terror. We revealed a haunting, desolate land shaped by despair, resilience, and the few survivors fighting to endure another day.

Sanctuary itself is no longer stable. Diablo is actively reshaping the world through terror, reflected by a procedural landscape where terrain, points of interest, monsters, and reward can change when you return. It's ruins tell the story of what was lost, its corruption reveals Diablo's present rule, and the encroaching forces of Hell offer a glimpse of what comes next.

The Road is your Home

With Sanctuary under Diablo's rule, survival is no longer tied to towns or conquered strongholds. Instead, you'll need to build a caravan of allies who travel with you through the scorched wastes.

These allies will be both vendors and steadfast companions, a growing community full of stories to discover. They are fascinating characters with pasts, stakes, and scars from surviving in Diablo's Sanctuary.

Amongst your newfound companions are a former Sister of the Sightless Eye... and a stranded Treasure Goblin searching for meaning in a world where greed has lost its purpose.

Iconic Heroes Return and A New One Rises

The team offered an early look at how they're thinking about class identity, progression, and loot. During the panel, we revealed the first three classes coming to Diablo V:

Demon Hunter

The Demon Hunter returns to stalk the forces of Hell with twin crossbows, striking from the shadows and leaping across the battlefield to annihilate their prey.

Monk

The Monk brings martial perfection back to Sanctuary, battering demons to a pulp with fists and calling down holy power to smite those who stand in their path.

Plague Knight

The all-new Plague Knight is the embodiment of walking death. They roam the battlefield, spreading disease and pestilence, ultimately consuming it for power.

These are only the first of the classes we'll reveal on the road to Diablo V, with more details on their combat, progression, and build possibilities to come.

Items Embrace Their Classic Form

The team emphasized their goal is to design items to feel readable, memorable, and worth chasing across hundreds of hours.

Itemization in Diablo V is inspired by Diablo II. We're experimenting with stat requirements on gear.

Your inventory plays a key role in how you wield your arsenal, larger items once again take up more slots in your inventory.

Gear-based sets are also returning for Diablo V. This will be a rich and deep crafting system, inspired by Lord of Hatred's approach, with Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords.

The Road Ahead to Diablo

Diablo V is still early in development, and this reveal marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation with the Diablo player community. Starting in 2027, we plan to share regular updates offering a closer look at our progress, the ideas guiding development, and features taking shape along the way.

Bringing players into the process early gives us the opportunity to listen, understand what excites you the most, and allow that to inform the decisions ahead. We want to build a Diablo game that honors what players love while taking the series somewhere genuinely new.

The next era has only begun. Sign up for future updates at Diablo5.Blizzard.com.
