Cortez Masto, Moran, Klobuchar, Ernst Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Strengthen the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Industry

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Jerry Moran (R-Kan.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), and Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) introduced legislation to strengthen the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry, provide innovative technologies to support the aviation industry, and lower emissions. The Securing America's Fuels Act would restore essential tax credits for clean fuels to support Nevada's tourism economy.

SAF is an alternative, low-carbon form of aviation fuel that is produced from non-petroleum-based materials, such as agricultural waste. The SAF industry relies on the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit, and while the Republicans' so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act extended the credit for all clean fuels, it eliminated the SAF-specific bonus. The Securing America's Fuels Act would reinstate the SAF bonus credit and extend it through 2033, providing long-term stability for the growing clean fuels industry.

"Nevada's travel and tourism industries bring in visitors from all over the world, and it's critical that we continue to embrace innovative aviation technology," said Senator Cortez Masto. "This bipartisan legislation incentivizes cleaner airplane fuel that will support a stronger aviation system and a healthier environment for future generations."

"Kansas has a long history as a leader in agriculture and aviation, and this legislation will strengthen these industries while bolstering U.S. energy innovation," said Senator Moran. "As a founding member of the Senate Sustainable Aviation Caucus, I am committed to supporting the sustainable fuels industry to bolster our aviation industry, open new markets for Kansas farmers and rural communities and promote American energy independence."

The Securing America's Fuels Act is supported by the SAF Coalition, Global Business Travel Association, National Business Travel Association, National Sorghum Producers, Airlines for America, Advanced Biofuels Association, American Biogas Council, and Gevo Inc. Representatives Sharice Davids (D-Kan.-03) and Tracey Mann (R-Kan.-01) have introduced companion legislation in the House of Representatives.

Through her Innovation State Initiative, Senator Cortez Masto is a champion of Nevada's clean energy economy, including clean transportation technology. She has introduced bipartisan legislation to gather information about weaknesses in the electric energy grid, bolster the hydroelectric industry, and to establish a Critical Minerals Security Alliance. Cortez Masto recently unveiled her sweeping legislation to reinstate key clean energy tax credits to lower costs for families. Within the bipartisan infrastructure law, the Senator passed multiple bills aimed at expanding domestic battery, critical mineral, and clean and smart transportation technologies.
