City of Ocala Eliminates Business Tax Receipt Requirements and Fees

OCALA, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2026) - The City of Ocala has adopted Ordinance No. 2027-1, eliminating the City's Business Tax Receipt (BTR) requirements and associated fees. As a result, businesses operating within Ocala city limits are no longer required to obtain or renew a City of Ocala BTR.

The ordinance removes the annual BTR renewal requirement for existing businesses and eliminates the need for new businesses to obtain a City BTR. City staff are updating records, online services and website information to reflect the change.

Businesses that have already paid fees for the current BTR renewal period may be eligible for a refund. City staff will review payments to determine eligibility and begin processing applicable refunds by Jan. 14, 2027.

While the ordinance eliminates City BTR requirements, businesses must continue to comply with all applicable local, state and federal licensing, permitting, zoning and building requirements.

For more information about the ordinance, refund eligibility or applicable permitting requirements, contact the City of Ocala Growth Management Department at 352-629-8421.
